Club Life at WLTC - August 2024

[image] [image]

August has been a very exciting month - we have installed a new glass balcony, making it easier to view the wonderful tennis being played on court whilst you can sit up on the terrace and enjoy some food, drinks and sunshine!

[image] [image]

We say goodbye to the wonderful Zdena from Onehealth Physiotherapy next door, and wish her all the best with her retirement!

[image] [image]

Another brilliant insight from Jo Durie - picked up by David Oldcorn, which he has cleverly titled as 'The lazy guide to playing doubles!':

"If you are playing a doubles match where the scoring system is that normally used for professional tournaments, why bother in the first set? If you lose it, you are nearer to winning the match than you were at the start of it!"

The Rolling Stoics Event is sold out! We have sold all 100 tickets already, fantastic stuff! We are really looking forward to watching the stoics perform live, right here at WLTC on Friday 20th September.

1st Team - Very well done to the team for coming 2nd in the South West National Group. 4th Team - Great Season with 2nd place and gained promotion to Div 3.. Matt W, Asad Mansoor, Ashwin Shahir all greatly contributing to the promotion.

Huge congratulations to all our juniors who have been competing over the summer. We hope you are enjoying yourselves and are so proud to have you representing our club.

Henry Woodward (left) and Nathan Armiger (right). Nathan managed to claim victory against Henry in the final on this occasion, but what a brilliant effort from both players at the Bucks Indoor Tennis Centre!

Henry has had a very busy summer competing (and winning) numerous tournaments around the country, including our very own Grade 3 Windsor Open Tournament! He even has his lucky matchday kit - keep up the good work Henry!

One of our U18 Junior members, Jaiden Man, had a brilliant run in the 'Play Your Way to Wimbledon' competition this summer. Beginning with an impressive victory at the club stage, Jaiden then advanced to the county stage, which he also won! Progressing through to the National Finals he then competed on the grass courts of Wimbledon! Jaiden then went on to win 2 of his group stage matches, qualifying him to the round of 16 where, after a hard fought battle, he narrowly missed out on making it through to the quarter-finals. A fantastic achievement and wonderful experience for Jaiden, huge congratulations from us all here at WLTC. Jaiden also met a few home heroes along the way...

The club managed to recycle another 2 sacks of balls this month with Recycaball™. Recycaball work closely with hundreds of clubs, coaches and players across the UK, offering the chance to recycle used tennis balls. So many tennis balls end up in landfill once they've been used in competitions, and yet for most there's a perfectly good application for them in other areas once the match is won. They collect hundreds of used tennis balls every week, and arrange for their redistribution into other industries and applications. Clubs don't have to worry about disposal, and they pay for the collection, courier service and the actual balls themselves.

How it works..

WLTC contact Recycaball and request a recycling sack. Once we have collected enough used balls to fill a sack, we arrange courier collection from WLTC. Recycaball receive the balls, which are hand processed, graded, repackaged and redistributed. Assuming the used balls meet Recycaball’s published standards, the club get paid for the balls that we’ve sent.

Charitable donations..

From some of the proceeds of the balls Recycaball collect, they make regular donations to a wide variety of charities and good causes all across the UK. These beneficiaries are chosen in main by the clubs, our network of suppliers, clubs & coaches. Clubs can also elect to donate your ball proceeds directly to a charity, which Recycaball happily do on our behalf. In addition, they donate some balls directly to local animal shelters, kennels and dog groups. They post regular updates on their website, detailing the latest beneficiaries and any other news
