Some of our members had a thoroughly enjoyable time down in France, with some friendly competition, very courteous hosts (who I am delighted to say are also members of WLTC) and irreplaceable memories. In the words of Mark Fernandez:

Over a year ago Pierre and Catherine Bechade approached me to see whether there would be any interest amongst WLTC over 60 members for an overseas tour to the Garden Tennis Club in Royan, France.

As a member of both clubs they stated that they would be delighted to host a 5 day trip and organise a match with the Royan Club which is adjacent to the Atlantic coast and sits in a magnificent location with fantastic views over the sea. Fast forward a year and 9 couples set off in early September for a truly remarkable trip with Pierre and Catherine showing unbelievable generosity in hosting several events with our new found French Friends which culminated in a wonderful lunch at the Garden Tennis Club. The wine flowed throughout the trip and it was so much fun.

I am pleased to report that WLTC beat Garden Tennis Club Royan and a trophy was duly secured after ladies doubles, men’s doubles and mixed doubles.

The Berkshire Winter League starts up again in early October. We once again have 6 Men's teams (the maximum allowed) across a range of Divisions. We are pleased to announce the box leagues are underway and we are already in our second round. Please try to play as many matches as you can (we know it can be difficult with the weather!), so that the boxes contain as many results as possible to ensure a seamless moving up and down of players to each league. Biscuits at WLTC!

As some of you may know, the club has been constantly making sustainability changes to try and make the club more sustainable and environementally friendly. To name a few of our improvements in recent years:

- recyclaball

- LED floodlights on all courts

- installation of solar panels

But, we as a club will always be looking for ways (big or small) to improve our sustainability, and so I am very excited to announce that in the coming weeks, we will no longer be serving biscuits in wrappers with your coffee's. In an aim to reduce the unneccesary plastic waste that comes with these individually wrapped little treats, we have created a new 'cookie jar'. The bar staff will now ask you if you would like a biscuit with your coffee, and will serve you one from our jar instead.
